By posting this recipe, I am entering my recipe into the Taste the Mighty Concord Welch’s Recipe Contest, a sponsored recipe contest in which I am eligible to win prizes. I was not compensated for my time.
I know heart health month is almost over, but I won’t let it pass by without honoring it with a heart-healthy recipe. My RDN friend Jessica over at Nutritioulicious is hosting a heart-healthy recipe contest featuring Welches Grape Juice. Welch’s and heart-health go hand-in-hand. Welch’s 100% Grape Juice is made by pressing whole Concord grapes – skin, seeds and all – to capture the grape’s delicious taste and natural polyphenol nutrition.
Nearly 20 years of research say that 100% grape juice made with Concord grapes helps support a healthy heart. Thanks to the dark purple Concord grape, 100% grape juice helps support a healthy heart by promoting healthy circulation and keeping your blood pumping and energy flowing.
Did you know that 100% grape juice made with Concord grapes also provides many of the same polyphenols (or plant nutrients) and heart-health benefits as red wine. I don’t drink alcohol, so it’s great to know I can get those same polyphenol benefits in 100% grape juice. Talk about an easy and delicious way to get the heart-health benefits of the one-of-a-kind Concord grape!
By using 100% juice in a recipe you can also decrease the amounts of added sugars. All of the sugar in this recipe comes from natural sources, such at Welch’s 100% grape juice and grapes. Made with 100% whole wheat bread also adds to the heart-health profile of this recipe. This is a fun way to switch up traditional french toast, and adds that extra punch of nutrition!

Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup 1% milk
- 1/2 cup Welch’s 100% Grape Juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 8 slices 100% whole wheat bread
- 2 cups red or purple seedless grapes, washed with stems removed
Instructions
- Turn on your broiler to high with the top rack approximately 6-8 inches from the top. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray or line with parchment paper.

- Place the red grapes on the baking sheet around the bread. Place in the oven and broil until the tops of the bread are golden, about 3 minutes. Turn over the slices of bread and continue to broil an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the bread is golden.
- Remove the french toast from the pan. Return the grapes to the oven and continue broiling an additional 5 minutes.
