These Creamy Orange Bars taste like you’re biting into a fresh orange! At only 160 calories per bar, each creamy bite is bursting with flavor!
I received free coupons for siggi’s yogurt mentioned in this post. By posting this recipe I am entering a recipe contest sponsored by siggi’s yogurt and am eligible to win prizes associated with the contest. I was not compensated for my time. All opinions are my own.
I’m at it again this week with another siggi’s inspired holiday recipe! Adding yet again to the dessert category of my website, I have created Creamy Orange Bars! Do not get these confused with the creamsicle flavor – as this is not that flavor. These taste like you are biting into an actual orange! The zesty orange taste combined with the light sweetness of siggi’s orange and ginger yogurt is the perfect blend of flavors. I have also heard that siggi’s has a blood orange flavor out right now, but I couldn’t find it at the grocery store I was at – you could sub in that flavor of yogurt if you wish.
Speaking of siggi’s, in case you didn’t see my blueberry pie cheese ball post earlier this week or my broccoli apple salad recipe, I’ll give you the low-down on siggi’s. siggi’s dairy was started by a man named Siggi (go figure) who lived in NYC and wanted some yogurt that was more like what he ate as a child growing up in Iceland.
With all the yogurts available to him in the U.S. being too sweet and full of complex ingredients, he decided to make his own. Long story short, we now have this great skyr style yogurt available that has, as their philosophy says, simple ingredients and not a lot of sugar. Plus, did I mention every one of their yogurts has more protein than sugar in it? How cool is that?!
Now back to this delicious recipe! My husband always associates oranges with Christmas, and so do I! Growing up we would always get an orange in our stockings on Christmas morning. My husband just has to have a chocolate orange every Christmas season, too. That orange flavor will forever be a Christmas flavor at our house. So if you love oranges, you will LOVE these Creamy Orange Bars.
Creamy Orange Bars - Christmas orange taste in a healthier dessert! Share on XThis recipe has a simple graham cracker crust, which you top with a lighter yogurt and cream cheese filling. If you have never made a graham cracker crust, you will find out it is really simple to do! Just crush the graham cracker crumbs (I used my food processor, but you could use a blender, or even the bottom of a cup), then combine the crumbs with some butter or coconut oil, and press onto the bottom of your baking dish. Bake the crust slightly.
While your crust is cooking, make your filling! Blend together the yogurt, cream cheese and egg whites. Whisk in a little bit of sugar, flour, orange juice and orange zest. This recipe calls for 2 Tablespoons of orange zest, which is equal to about 2 oranges. You may wish to do a little less if you do not want a strong orange taste.
Pour your filling onto the crust, spread so it is even and place it back in the oven to bake until the filling no longer jiggles. Let it cool completely, then place in the refrigerator to continue to fully cool and set up. Take to a family holiday party, slice into 12 bars…which are only 160 calories per bar….and enjoy!
