A yummy way to increase milk production, this Lactation Boosting Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Oatmeal is a delicious and healthy way to start off your day. It’s like eating dessert for breakfast!
If you are a new mom and breastfeeding, then this is the recipe for you! And if you are anyone else, you can still enjoy this great oatmeal, too – don’t worry, it won’t make you start producing milk. 😉 It will just add some great nutrients to your diet.
So, I guess you might be wondering what makes this a lactation boosting oatmeal raisin cookie oatmeal recipe? Well, I have added specific ingredients that are known galactagogues (a substance that increases milk supply). The galactagogues in this recipe include oats, flax seed, brewer’s yeast, and raw nuts (I chose pecans). I found that the brewer’s yeast imparts somewhat of a bitter flavor, so you may wish to omit this from the recipe (or use more brown sugar to compensate…), but brewer’s yeast is known to have excellent lactogenic properties. It’s up to you if you want to include it or not.
When my first son was born, I struggled with a low milk supply. I researched and researched and did everything I could to increase my supply. Luckily, I found these and other foods that helped me somewhat increase and at least maintain what milk supply I did have. (If you haven’t heard of or tried Milkmakers cookies, you are missing out!) Fast forward to now, I have been using these ingredients in my diet since my second baby was born and I have not had any trouble with my milk supply so far. I really believe starting off eating these foods and coming in with the knowledge I gained last time around has really helped.
And with this recipe, I not only combined some great galactagogues, but some of the classic ingredients for oatmeal raisin cookies as well! So if you like eating dessert for breakfast, you’ll love this recipe. It is packed with protein, omega 3’s and other good-for-you fats, and fiber – all helping keep you fuller longer.
Not all women will see results from eating this, but it certainly couldn’t hurt to try! Eating a well-balanced diet and drinking plenty of water is also important for a good milk supply.
NOTE: This recipe makes 2 servings. I make it one morning and eat half and put the other half in a container in the fridge for an easy heat up and eat the next day breakfast.
