June 1, 2016 is Global Running Day! Take a peek into my running life and pledge to run yourself!
Today is Global Running Day! I actually didn’t know there was such a thing until this year. But how cool is it that there is a whole day – for the world – dedicated to running?! Now I know some of you must be thinking I am crazy because running is not your cup of tea. But it is mine. For some strange reason somewhat unbeknownst to me, I love running.
For my global running day post, I am completing a questionnaire about myself and my running, so as to give you a little peek into my miles. I have linked up with fellow Sweat Pink Ambassador, Jonesin’ For a Run, who created the survey and link-up, to bring us runners together. See my answers below, then feel free to browse the link-up for other great bloggers and running buddies!
- When/why did you start running?
- This question isn’t actually on the original survey, but I decided to add it. I started running my sophomore year of high school. A few of my friends were running track and recruited me to join them. I chose to run long distance – the 800m (1/2 mile), 1600m (1 mile) and 3200m (2 miles) and sometimes I would run the 400m in a relay. After track season ended my running coach somehow got me to run “summer miles” to keep us kids running and be more ready for cross country in the fall. I have been running ever since.
- Why do you run?
- I run for my health, my sanity and to be an example for my kids. I run to get out, clear my head and feel energized, tired and invigorated all at the same time.
- How do you plan to celebrate National Running Day?
- By going for a run, of course! You can head on over to the Global Running Day website and pledge to run, too!
- How many miles have you run so far this year? Do you have a mileage goal for the year?
- I haven’t been keeping exact track of my miles this year. I had a baby at the end of December and just got back into running a couple of months ago. I’m starting slow and building the endurance back up I lost during the pregnancy.
- What big events do you have on the race calendar so far this year?
- I haven’t signed up for one yet, as I’m still trying to decide which one I want to run, but I am planning on running a half marathon sometime during the end of summer or beginning of fall. There will be a couple 5K’s in between then and now. Next year I plan on running a full marathon – something I haven’t done since 2011.
- Before I leave for a run I must have:
- Running watch, music and headphones. If it is sunny, my visor.
- Do you track your runs? If so what do you use?
- Yes, I use a Nike Plus Sportwatch GPS and log my miles on Nike Plus.
- UPDATE: I now use my Apple Watch to track all my runs and workouts.
- Who is your favorite running partner?
- My hubby. He runs because I run (it is not his most favorite activity) and I love that he is willing to lace up his shoes and hit the road with me. After him are my two little guys – they love to go in the stroller for a jog with mama! 🙂
- What races have you run so far this year?
- Like I said earlier, I am just getting back into running post-baby, but I have run two 5K’s this year so far: the Tulip Festival 5K and the Girls on the Run 5K. I love race season and can’t wait to run some more!
- If you have to give someone one piece of advice about running, what would it be?
- Enjoy it. Don’t push it too much, too hard, or too fast that you lose the big picture of it. Yes, it may be for physical health or you may have a goal to beat your personal record in that 10K, but when the joy is gone from it, it makes it that much harder to actually do it.
- Describe your relationship with running in one word:
- Haven
