Ham and Cheese Pesto Pinwheels are a fun, easy and delicious appetizer for any party or gathering!
With super bowl Sunday coming up, as well as numerous gatherings with family and friends marked on the calendar over the next few months, I’m always looking for delicious appetizers to make and serve. But with two small kids I also need those appetizers to be easy to make. Ain’t nobody got time to be slaving away in the kitchen all day!
These ham and cheese pesto pinwheels hit the mark! Easy – check. Delicious – check. Both kids and adults love them – double check! With only 4 ingredients, you can’t go wrong. You could even mix and match to suit your taste buds. If you don’t like ham – try turkey. Pick your favorite cheese to pair with the meat. Use homemade or store bought pesto to shine through with a pop of flavor.
I chose to use puff pastry in comparison to a crescent or other from-the-tube dough. Still easy, flaky and even tastier, in my opinion. These come together in a snap. The longest time spent is waiting around for them to bake. In under 30 minutes from prep to first bite you’ll have a hot appetizer ready to serve for family and friends.

Description
These Ham and Cheese Pesto Pinwheels are a fun, easy and delicious appetizer for any party or gathering!
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1/3 cup pesto
- 4 oz sliced deli ham
- 4 oz shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, swiss, etc)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F. Prepare 2 baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray or silicone baking mats.
- Lay out puff pastry sheets. Divide and spread the pesto onto the two pastry sheets. Next, layer with the ham slices, followed by the cheese.
- Starting from the short side, tightly roll the puff pastry all the way (like a jelly roll). Using a sharp serrated knife, slice each log into ~1/2 inch slices to create pinwheels (you should get between 15-18). Place the pinwheels flat onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake 15-18 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Allow to slightly cool before serving. Enjoy!
Notes
You may use sliced cheese instead of shredded, if you prefer.
